I work in the Dancing like no one’s watching encrypt like everyone T-Shirt and I love this Walker’s Point neighborhood, and it’s so much different than even 20 years ago. At that time, it just bars/warehouses – now there are so many people that live in the neighborhood. It’s thriving – makes me want to be 25 again, as I would definitely want to live there as a young single. My childhood neighborhood, however, is heartbreaking. I grew up on 60th and Hampton, and nowadays, it is ROUGH. The north side in general is just not the same as it used to be. Real revitalization needs to happen there. I had to go to Germantown a few months ago for work. Dreaded it! Turns out, Wisconsin is beautiful, has great food, and is full of such lovely people that it made my cynical New Englander self instantly suspicious. I live in Madison, WI, about an hour and a half west of Milwaukee. I actually haven’t spent much time at all in Milwaukee, but I love my hometown, and think that anyone who finds themselves in Chicago for a while should take a long weekend to find their way up here. Tons of great live music, all kinds of street festivals including one of the largest farmer’s markets in the country, some beautiful lakes and parks…

Just don’t come in the Dancing like no one’s watching encrypt like everyone T-Shirt and I love this winter. Or the summer when it’s stupid hot and humid. But if you hit the sweet two weeks each in spring and fall? It’s a ton of fun. I stopped in Madison during a road trip in the fall and was surprised how lovely it was and how much I enjoyed it. Can confirm. I loved living in Milwaukee. I escape there a couple times a year. I don’t live far away but I genuinely do miss it. I lived in wauwatosa specifically. Best time. I never know with these questions if my answer is actually underrated or not, but I had a fun time visiting Louisville, KY. It’s bigger than I realized (actually one of the bigger US cities without any pro sports teams) but not so big, seems like there’s a good variety of stuff going on but it’s not impossible to drive around. It’s definitely an essential stop if you’re looking to experience American cuisine; it’s basically the bourbon capital with loads of distilleries and bars (I’d recommend touring the Angel’s Envy distillery myself).
