Your lucky. In my store the Damn right i am a Warriors mascot fan win or lose shirt and I love this cart people were taught cashiering so they could help during rushes if they had most of the lot cleared. Though there were times the cart people came for a rush and then they sent cashiers out to help the cart people catch up. When fresh cap started, they tried to pull this some years back when deli was so understaffed it had to be closed at 3 PM as an average (sometimes it was closed at 2, sometimes 4). Two managers (not mine) tried to pull the ‘if you’re not going to be there for the customer you have no business being in fresh.’ I said awright, so I’ll be getting back to work now. One of those two ended up running deli for the rest of the day, hue. Fun fact: The team of some 9 or 10 people we had when fresh cap started (running all of meat/produce, and the non-production for bakery/deli) was at the time down to me and one other person at the time after everyone else had quit – The other person moved to a diff dept, and I was by my lonesome on second shift for months. It was great, all I did was run the meat wall once then do CVPs for the rest of the day. Back in my day, first decade of the 2000’s they could work you up to 49% of your schedule in a higher paying job, I worked 40 hours a week, so as soon as I hit 20 hours a week in another job they had to raise my pay. They eventually just moved me to that job because they got tired of me letting them know that I was getting a raise if they moved me again, and it forced management to have to cover, I was the only one that could drive a forklift that worked on the salesfloor.

This is how I feel. I’m perfectly fine helping other departments but I don’t understand why we all have differing pay if we’re all expected to float between jobs. I hated sending my associates from apparel to work on cap 2 because cap 2 made almost $2 more. When I started, we would get pulled to fresh all the Damn right i am a Warriors mascot fan win or lose shirt and I love this time, and back then they made more money. They irritated me a lot. Now that we make more, we never get pulled there. Except unloading the trucks. Mostly we get pulled to push carts, which is $2 less, so I don’t mind at all. It is against policy if you work in another area over 50% of your time you’re required to be job coded in that area. I had the reverse happen to me. I worked in claims when Covid hit and claims made more than the areas that would later be called OPD. They put me there for 6 months. A month into it they asked if I wanted to transfer because of how much time I spent over there. I said “no I get paid more for claims and I like claims, but I’m happy to continue to help out where needed”. I thought it would make me look good when I would eventually be going for the team lead spot because I was friends with the team lead and knew she was looking to leave our store. Someone else was chosen and that person was fired like a month later. I haven’t read it for like 18 months, but at that point you could work up to 12 weeks temporarily in a position outside of your own without a pay adjustment.
