It definitely seems like we’ve been getting more on the Damn right I am a Uconn fan now and forever shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this Carolina coast. Not the huge Midwest ones but still ~1 per year in my county for the last few years. Same with delaware. Moved here 28 years ago and we used to get one every maybe 5 years. Lately we’ve had multiple per year the last 4 or 5 years. The real issue are homes all over the south, and trailer parks and rental communities within the midlands. There is no reason whatsoever for a trailer park to not have shelters within 5 minutes on foot of every home and that could be enforced without additional cost to the government. Set a date for compliance. Same with rickety apartment buildings and RV lot parks. There is already grant funding available for communities, but nobody who needs it actually uses it. Not sure if this is because communities just don’t plan for it or they don’t know it’s available. That needs to be addressed separately.

Homeowner grants would be voluntary but it’s necessary for the Damn right I am a Uconn fan now and forever shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this bulk of preexisting nonrental homes across the southern US. There is no reason whatsoever for a trailer park to not have shelters within 5 minutes on foot of every home and that could be enforced without additional cost to the government. 5 minutes is too long during an actual tornado warning, especially if the people have to walk outside, the shelter must be closer than that. Former trailer park kid here: the few young people would make it to a shelter in 5 minutes. A TON of trailer park residents are barely-mobile people doing the poverty/disability-waddle on the dole though. We just need to require storm shelters with the sale of any property with a modular or mobile home on it. They are no bigger than a standard lawn mower shed. I lived in Arkansas for over 20 years. Basements in Arkansas are extremely rare. Even the million dollar homes dont have them. It is insane the confidence that people say false information. This is objectively wrong, the number of tornados has been staying constant. It’s a complex and costly issue unfortunately – think multi-family dwellings like apartment buildings, dorms, or large spread out places like schools. It’s definitely possible to build shelters large enough for them, but difficult to retrofit for existing structures.
