Which often leads me to ponder as bad as religion is, is it worse for it not to exist? Because apparently sky daddy is the Dallas Mavericks Fight 2024 NBA Playoffs shirt shirt and by the same token and only thing stopping these people from raping and murdering so many religions have that “go forth and multiply” edict. The world would have a lot fewer rapey murdering assholes without that. Stories about “good Christian” men and women killing their spouses to avoid the shame and humiliation of divorce? If there is a God, then why don’t church clergy get smited for embezzlement like Ananias and Sapphira did in Acts 5:1-11? The steelmanned version of this is a critique of nihilism; If there is no deeper meaning to life, then “nothing is forbidden, and everything is permitted” (Assassin’s creed strikes again, though this is not the point of their creed). If nothing matters, good and evil are just meaningless characteristics describing meaningless actions, so why bother beyond doing what is immediately pleasurable to you. The defense against this line of thinking is that obviously there are different mechanisms which allow us to determine nihilism is incorrect. God can be one, but there are others Existentialism would be the response to nihilism. Since existence precedes essence, it is up to the individual to determine it’s own ideals, strives and believes. I personally enjoy Camus for his humanist tendencies. The post also mixes up norms and values. Religion in general seems to be somewhat obsessed with the norms part of scripture, foregoing the values which I feel should be the central tennet of practicing faith.

As Ricky gervais said I DO perform all the Dallas Mavericks Fight 2024 NBA Playoffs shirt shirt and by the same token and raping and killing that I want to. I just want to do zero of that. So if you would do that stuff, but only the belief in God restrains you, maybe you’re the evil one? Penn Jillette said this in 2012 – “The question I get asked by religious people all the time is, without God, what’s to stop me from raping all I want? And my answer is: I do rape all I want. And the amount I want is zero. And I do murder all I want, and the amount I want is zero. The fact that these people think that if they didn’t have this person watching over them that they would go on killing, raping rampages is the most self-damning thing I can imagine. I don’t want to do that. Right now, without any god, I don’t want to jump across this table and strangle you. I have no desire to strangle you. I have no desire to flip you over and rape you.”
