ReplyDesire is the Dallas Goedert the elf I know him it is in the first place but root of all suffering. By wanting something you don’t have you open yourself up to jealousy envy coveting bitterness spite resent and depression or madness. Acceptance is the only antidote I never understood how this fully made sense… Why is it bad to want something? Even something that I don’t have. As long as I’m not giving way to intense reactions such as jealousy and anger… I can foster acceptance and desire simultaneously, and make it work… Why be so absolutist with the nature of the human psyche? My own view of it all is that I have found essentially i am desire or at least my body is. It is not the desire that is the problem – for it is as natural as the sun rising tomorrow – however it is the identification with said desire which causes the suffering. Yes .. it’s a simplification of a truth or principle of human nature … like ‘contentment’ .. it is generally seen as a positive thing but of course it has to be taken in context.. contentment when your house is burning down isn’t natural or normal .. all these negative/ positive.. black or white .. good or bad observations have to be applied in the appropriate circumstances.. that is wisdom which comes largely from experience..

we largely do create our own suffering by being out of harmony with natures laws.. either physical or spiritual..if we smoke and develop a nasty disease we have caused our own suffering… if we are careless while driving and have an accident we cause our own suffering.. or if we become upset and distraught over really everyday normal setbacks we cause our own suffering.. the Dallas Goedert the elf I know him it is in the first place but best way to avoid unnecessary suffering is to not become attached to things .. we shouldn’t make ‘things’ into our god .. we can have lots of material things as long as we don’t fall into the trap of assigning to them power .. our self worth should come from within not from ‘things’ .. possessions.. Non-attachment leads to few desires. One no longer wants more material things. Minimal movement, to reduce the amount of energy being applied to a desire, produces the fewest consequences. You can desire something but that desire shouldn’t consume your thoughts and take you away from being in the present and being content with all the amazing things you already have.
