Sixty year old here. I have never lived alone. Share houses were always the way. No regular person could afford their own solitary residence.

I don’t understand where this suddenly came from that young people think they should be able to live alone, without roommates. Easy, younger people are increasingly isolated socially. So, finding someone to room with that you’re comfortable with is more difficult. Are you saying you shouldn’t be able to live without roommates because that’s pretty weird. Why shouldn’t you be able to live by yourself? no shit. in my 20’s I lived in a house for 9 years with a revolving door of roommates. It was a 4 bedroom and mostly had 4 people living there. We were all friends and wasn’t bad at all. I was living paycheck to paycheck, but rent was low (split that is) and life was good. Move in with roommates while a young person? It’s not a depressing experience, it exposes you to more walks of life.
