OP, do you really assume that this is how everyone feels? Life at 15 was honestly very bland for me, consistently my life got better from about 20 to until when the Czech professional ice hockey forward jakub vrana signature T-Shirt and I love this pandemic hit. Depression really got me there, and I’m struggling to crawl out of the funk that I’m still in (therapist acquired, and is very good) but even now I’m not convinced that my life won’t still continue to get more exciting. I was stuck in school at 15, with very little control over my life, and a lack of understanding about so many things in the world. I’d argue I didn’t even fully know what my passions in life were until my 20s. (Not that I didn’t know what I liked, just how deep and interesting my hobbies and interests actually were) and not being limited to the small pool of people you experience in a school, you can branch out and know so many other people with passions similar to yours.

This reflects more about how you are choosing to live your life than life itself. The world just seems more fascinating, richer, wierd, and interesting every day to me and I’m 38. When you’re 15 your amygdala (fight or flight response) controls you. When you’re older with a fully developed brain you still get excited but it processes in a more reasonable way. Read sopalski Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers. Fantastic author, walks the tightrope between heavy neuro science and funny entertaining. The tl;dr would be roughly: because in the adolescent brain the PreFrontalCortex, which governs impulse control and reasoned self discipline and is shielded from all that hormonal soup until about 25, is being pinch hit for by the amygdala, which largely governs fight/flight/freeze. Which makes sooo much sense 250k years ago when life expectancy is maybe 30 and surviving past 20 is linked to being extremely alert of the present moment. Whatever 10-20 feels, it’s INTENSE. I forget the exact passage but he says something like just as likely to do heroic things like lay down their life to save the village as they are to villainously burn the whole village to the ground. So here we are in present, and pre 25 the feels FEEL intense, and it’s not like the level of emotion changes after 25 it’s just mitigated by other parts of the brain, including responsibility, patience, experience, gratification delay, etc…
