As a career SW as well as someone who’s recently had this experience, yes, it’s ‘weird’ or inappropriate or however you identify it. What? You are making it weird. I write to my wife’s friends occasionally. If something happens that reminds of them, I’ll text them. I’m 39 and don’t think it’s weird. You have to understand that you are engrossed in your family, but their life is very different. They have space for new friends and all this banter with new people when you don’t . It’s probably well intentioned but it’s smart to keep your eyes open.
