So what happens when a fertilized embryo doesn’t get used and “dies” eventually? Isn’t it child neglect amd child murder? IVF is incredibly expensive. It’s not just IVF though, they’ll use this as precedent to take more rights away from women since embryos are now protected. They’ve basically taken away all their rights as is. No woman should live in Alabama at this point. Only a matter of time before they are literally shackled to the kitchen and bedroom by the GOP. Most have their head in sand. “Well I wouldn’t/don’t do that, so it doesn’t apply to me.” It’s like that famous quote from the holocaust of they came for x, then y, and by the time they got to z and it was me it was too late. That’s what will happen in Alabama. Just like it seems to be happening in Utah or Idaho. Whichever one made gynecologists basically a crime. I’d agree if it wasn’t for the fact that the foster system is a god awful mismanaged clusterfuck that has only a fraction of the budget it needs to really be reliable I don’t understand how this law stops people from using IVF, are they saying embryos are actual people? I’m genuinely confused

During IVF they usually create lots of embryos, way more than you’d ever want to have children. They do this because many of the Cooley High 1975 Movie Shirt moreover I love this embryos will not be viable. They then test and use the embryos that have the most chance of survival. Sometimes they will use more than one embryo to increase the odds that one takes. However if more than one is viable they might selectively abort the fetuses down to 1 or 2, so the pregnancy has a higher chance of live birth. So that potentially means having to either use all the embryos created regardless of their viability (not realistic and super expensive), only implanting 1-2 embryos per try (potentially making the process longer and more expensive), or indefinitely paying $400-700 a year to store the frozen embryos in order to avoid “killing” them.
