You want something to go away? Don’t ever mention it again, it will die. I used to work at Facebook. In 2012, there was also an employee revolt around the “mobile first” strategy Zuck pushed. Mobile phones were slow, screens were small, and mobile apps sucked. I’m not saying he’s right about this but I can say employees complaining at Facebook isn’t a strong indicator. People like to work on big things and have immediate impact for career growth and promotion. It makes sense for Zuck to make bets 3-5 years in the future. It makes much less sense for engineers who get assessed on their “impact” every 6 months. I wouldn’t want to work on it as an engineer. I’d rather work on a mobile feature and write “Shipped XYZ feature used by 800M users daily” than write something cool for the meta verse with a daily use count of 10k. The former gets me a higher rating, maybe a promotion, and certainly more money.

Is this metacrap supposed to be like a virtual world? Something that already exists in multiple games. Mark Zuckerberg hates reality because you can enjoy it for free without ads, in Zuck’s ideal world you couldn’t look at a sunset without seeing an ad for revolut first.
