“Get over it” anytime that’s said, changes how I view that person, especially if they’re saying that to someone grieving over an unusual pet such as a hamster or a fish. But it’s still assholey to say it to anyone grieving over anything. When my best friend died a year later it effected me heavily I was extremely underweight, tired, and alone. My mom told me to get over it and spend time with her. Like??? I’m sorry should I start drooling at the COME TO…THE OFFICE STRANGER PA THAT WHAT SHE SAID Shirt and I love this mouth or something?? what do you mean i don’t LOOK or ACT autistic???? That’s one of those phrases which was useful in its original context, which (as far as I can tell) was telling people in social science research and the helping professions to value their clients’ actual experiences over theoretical constructs. Like… if you’re a therapist or a doctor who has a patient with some mental illness or who lives in multigenerational poverty (or if you’re a psychologist or sociologist who are studying similar people), your patient/client/research subject will have had experiences which are different from those of you and your peers, and that you’re not going to get an adequate sense of just by reading books about it.

No it is a fact in this fact-based discussion and you don’t get to shut it down by claiming it’s my opinion just because you don’t like it
