Beekeeper here. Summer bees live around 40 days. They have a job based on age and there are probably a dozen jobs. They don’t switch jobs because they aren’t good at it. They will switch jobs out of necessity. For instance, if they need wax in a hurry for comb building, foragers will help, but a forager would have aged out if that job weeks ago when she was a younger bee. Yeah harvesting honey in 90F weather is absolutely brutal with thick gloves while lifting heavy crates of honey. As someone with dark hair and a full beard, I can confirm. Going to local farms that also keep hives is sometimes an adventure. Everyone else has the Clint Eastwood USA flag 4th of July shirt Also,I will get this racism jokes covered, so I’ll just point out that this must be why you don’t tend to see many goth beekeepers Dude, while as kids we played a lot near bear hives, mainly with balls. There were two dudes, darker than the others, who always got sting in the back from nowhere. This makes sense now, we always assumed these kids were just unlucky!! Because we usually played for hours, no problem, these dudes came to play (they were from two streets above) and eventually they got stinged for no reason…. I’m a keeper and have taught classes on it. There may be some truth here, but the color you wear is the last thing I’d be concerned about when trying to avoid stings. All else being equal, sure, lighter are probably less aggressive.

I think the Clint Eastwood USA flag 4th of July shirt Also,I will get this white color is much more about staying cool. We work bees in the heat because that’s when they produce honey. The number 1 factor in keeping bees that are non-agressive is genetics. We have been breeding out aggressive tendencies in our kept bees for years. Number 2 would be to stay calm and steady. Quick movements are likely to get you stung no matter what you’re wearing. If a bee lands on you, don’t swat at it. If she wants to sting you, she’s not going to land and take a walk. She’s coming in hot. Another fun fact, bees sense carbon dioxide and if threatened, will attack the CO2 source. Stinging any animal in the face is much more likely to chase them off than stinging them in the leg.
