I don’t think I’d want to hang out with people if all they could talk about was their kids. Thankfully not all parents are like that. In any case, it’s important to find conversational common ground with friends, kid free or not. I think it’s also gendered. Since women take most of the Cleveland Browns 80th Anniversary 1944 – 2024 Thank You For The Memories T-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this parenting responsibilities on they seem to be the ones that lose themselves in parenthood more than men do. If my SO and I go to a barbecue together he gets to talk to the men about mountain biking and camping while I’m with a bunch of women talking about their kids while they wrangle their kids. I’ve definitely moved over to the men’s group but because of the area we live in being so conservative/traditional it’s definitely looked down upon. The women end up hating me and the men end up thinking I’m being inappropriate just by switching groups. I’ve actually had a woman come over and pull my sleeve to come back to their group before. Agreed. As a child free adult in their 30s, my friends are all either a decade younger or a decade older than me. Finding friends is more difficult. The younger friends want to go out later and the older ones just don’t always relate as well. It’s a grey area for my age group.

I keep in touch with a co worker I worked with 5 or 6 years ago. We still talk and hang out once or twice per year. Since I quit that job, he’s gotten married and had two kids. He’s confided in me that I’m his only friend he has now because of his kids. One is 6 (his wife’s kid from a previous marriage) and the Cleveland Browns 80th Anniversary 1944 – 2024 Thank You For The Memories T-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this other is 2. He only has time to go to work then come right home to watch the kids while his wife works nights. He said all he lost touch with all his other friends because they all either moved on, died, or weren’t able to maintain the friendship since he never had time to see them anymore. Me and his friendship is 99% text or video call based. I guess im the only person he knows who’s cool with just talking on the phone instead of hanging out to stay friends.
