That is as long as you move over for someone who’s going faster than you (usually 100+mph) no one really cares. Here in Montréal, on regular journeys, I am aware of bad pot-holes, and cars entering via badly designed temporary on-ramps during construction, which I want to “pass” in the passing lane. Drivers of silver mercedes regularly pressure me and try to pass on the inside creating a more dangerous situation than the one I was trying to avoid. but surely the guy behind me can’t use the passing lane law for justification while himself breaking the speed limit law? I genuinely think a lot of drivers don’t know how to use a multiple lane road. I think it’s because this concept isn’t taught, or taught enough, in driving schools. Back when I took drivers ed in Illinois I really don’t remember learning about the fast lane, and having to figure it out for myself by driving on the highways. Either they don’t know they are slow, or they think they are regulating the speeders, which is none of their fucking business, but logic doesn’t live in their brains My dad is this person. He will get in the carpool lane (or other lane that is not the farthest right) and hit the cruise control at 65 (speed limit is 65 where he lives). He doesn’t care that people flash their lights at him, honk, whatever. I WANT to think he is oblivious. But he really just doesn’t care. Speed limit is 65 so that’s what he’s doing even if no on else is and they are trapped behind him until the lane breaks again.

I hate hate hate driving with him. Looking in the Cincinnati Bengals Infant Hand-Off 2022 Shirt and I love this side view mirror with the 7+ cars behind us fills me with anxiety so much. I don’t say anything (anymore) because he doesn’t care and I’m the one to get upset/annoyed/pissed. So I try and make it a point to sit where I can’t see the side view mirror. I travel a busy stretch of road every day. I see some people who either don’t understand, or perhaps don’t care what the fast lane is for because they simply refuse to move over even when no cars are in front of them. But that’s pretty rare. Generally the ones that I see doing this are going to eventually pass another car and so they don’t move over even though it’s going to take 5 miles before they over take them.
