61 YO single male. Fully retired at 50. Very little income, but I have wealth, so haven’t needed to file a tax return since 2015. Can’t qualify for credits without a tax return. Pay full price on exchange in WA. Eligible for Apple Health (Medicaid) but refuse to go that route. Call me crazy, sure, but I chose to stop working, so I don’t believe I’m entitled to basically free healthcare with potential strings attached. Thankfully I can afford, but 5 years ago the premiums where about $375/mo. Moral of story, you MUST have insurance. If you don’t, it’s one accident, a bad diagnosis and you’re bankrupt. It’s the system we have I guess.

Obama care hits so hard. Health insurance was way cheaper and those 5 dollar copays I miss those. But let’s keep voting blue… Pay cash and demand discounts for paying cash. I’m not doubting their authenticity, but the small business I work for has not had an increase nor degradation in benefits for 4 years. Last year it was pennies cheaper, but roughly the same cost. Other than that the price was super similar) and guess wrong on our income and make more we have to pay it back in our taxes. We are in a phase of life that’s a big shift. I stayed home with our daughter all of 2023 and I will be going back to work in 2024. But I have no idea what I’ll be doing since I don’t have a specific field. It was be super easy for us to guess completely off.
