Well my European grandparents and hundreds of generations before them were born and grew up in the Charlie Coyle American professional ice hockey forward currently playing for the Boston Bruins T-Shirt But I will love this same area. Up till very recently most of Europeans were like that. I am a naturalized American so I identify myself neither with the area my ancestry is from, or the area I grew up in. One thing no one is really talking about is that Europe is incredibly culturally diverse. Someone in Italy lives a completely different lifestyle than someone in Sweden. As an American myself, if I asked someone where they from, and they said Virginia or Ohio or any other state (maybe with the exception of Hawaii and Alaska) that’s a boring answer. For the most part, living in one state is largely the same experience as living in any other state. Telling me your cultural background gives me much more information about how you were raised, your family, your values, etc. To see my youngest, it takes six hours/300 miles and they live in the same state. We move around a lot and maybe that’s why we grab onto ancestry? Idk.

Identity is just one of several methods to keep the Charlie Coyle American professional ice hockey forward currently playing for the Boston Bruins T-Shirt But I will love this masses divided. The government and TPTB have an easier time governing people when they are divided. So you don’t feel like cultural beliefs were spread to you from your parents who got theirs from their parents? That’s so interesting. In Europe, your ancestry only mattered in terms of nobility. It never mattered in any way, where your ancestors may have been born, but it did matter if they were royalty or common peasants. As the nobility were a tiny fraction of the population, what mattered most to the definition of identity in European culture has been that of the commoners. Their identity was defined by wherethey were born/raised, and which king/feudal lord, they owed their loyalty to, which was again defined by where they were born and raised.
