I get it. Knitting is one of those quiet therapeutic hobbies for most. My grandma loved to talk and teach about it. But I imagine that’s grandchild privilege. If it’s a solo quiet hobby I would assume this is the Charles Wesley Godwin Go ‘Head Daddy Shirt Also,I will get this standard reaction. Yikes. My wife and I were vacationing in the mediterranean Balkans one time and we went to a cafe. She brought her knitting with her and just started to knit as we hung out. There were SO MANY patrons, old and young stoping by our able and telling her how amazing it is to see that nowadays from a young person and how nostalgic it was for them to see it happen. Good times. Some people just want to be left alone, kinda like when that girl says you can’t pet her cute poodle or corgi because its a working service dog. It makes you a little upset but you have to accept the owners wishes Last time someone tried to talk to me on a plane (southwest), she was 1/3 of the way into my seat because she was super-morbidly obese as was the guy on the other side of her. I had to sit with my spine at a 45° angle to make room for her upper body while the guy on the other side had to lean into the aisle. She had other seats available so I have no idea why she picked that one other than thinking I had room in my seat to share. It was when ebola was ravaging west africa and there had been a couple of cases in the States, that she was full contact sweating on the entire left side of my body.

The only thing worse than someone who talks to strangers for the entire flight is someone who doesn’t care that it’s unwelcome. I’ve had flight-long friends, but never someone who forces me into a painful sitting position for their own comfort. Fair enough, back in the day when I wanted quiet on the train I used to put earplugs in. Nowadays my in-ear Bluetooth headphones are so good at noise cancelling I can just wear them without listening to music. When I take my kid to the park, I might as well just be surrounded in CAUTION tape. I have huge sunglasses on, big ol headphones, and either knitting or a sketchbook in my lap. It is shocking how many people still try to talk to you.
