The key to reconciling the Cats Are The Best Therapists Girl Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this patchworking of disparate fabrics with a meaningful concept came one summer morning when Thornton was scrolling through Instagram. He was arrested by an image of a glass jar containing smashed fragments of blue-and-white porcelain by Bouke de Vries, part of a series on ceramic artists’ work the Saatchi Gallery was posting. Bregazzi smiles ruefully. “It was the title that got me: ‘In Pieces but Holding it Together.’ Because that’s exactly how I was feeling.”

More research led them to the Cats Are The Best Therapists Girl Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this Japanese art of Kintsugi, or ‘golden joinery,’ in which fractured porcelain is repaired with lacquer infused with gold dust. “The philosophy behind it is that if something’s broken, you can mend it, and it becomes more precious, more valuable and stronger,” she says. It was a perfect, hopeful, metaphor for the emotional times we’re living in—and also the visual spur to start dicing up blue and white Liberty prints and piping them with white or gold binding, and otherwise reconfiguring the rose prints, lace, and georgettes and organic cottons they had in stock. In the mix are a lot of easy, familiar, voluminous Preen by Thornton Bregazzi shapes, punctuated with asymmetric frills and ruching. There’s a pink satin quilted jacket, almost like an antique bed jacket, designed “to be cozy and comforting” and some sparky lemon and leaf-green dresses.
