The end result is an exhibition that impresses with its carefully considered narrative, providing the Canyonlands Capitol Reef Arches Brycle Zion Vintage T-Shirt also I will do this most comprehensive overview of Gentileschi’s career ever staged. “With Baroque pictures, which are usually very forceful, I’m a brave believer in less is more,” Treves adds. “The pictures are incredibly powerful, and you need to let people absorb each painting. If you cram the gallery with too much, it actually ends up being counterproductive.” Appropriately, when entering the first room, one of Gentileschi’s most visceral pictures hangs front and center: her unique interpretation of the biblical tale of Susanna and the Elders.

Artemisia Gentileschi, Susanna and the Canyonlands Capitol Reef Arches Brycle Zion Vintage T-Shirt also I will do this Elders, 1610, oil on canvas, 170 × 121 cm Painted when she was just 17 years old, Gentileschi’s vision of the young Susanna—whose attempts to bathe in a garden are interrupted by a pair of lecherous men who then threaten to accuse her of adultery—already showcases the emotional charge that made her a revolutionary. While Susanna was a common subject among Baroque painters from Rubens to Tintoretto, the attention lavished on Susanna’s naked body usually suggests an audience less interested in the inner turmoil of the painting’s subject, and more interested in an illicit erotic frisson. Gentileschi takes an altogether different, powerfully naturalistic tack, with Susanna cowering from the men who lean aggressively into her space, her hands raised to push back against them while her face contorts in disgust.
