I still use my iPod Touch nightly to listen to my music. I don’t like iPhones, so I don’t have one I can use for my music collection (I prefer Android and the ability to sideload stuff). And yet there’s no newer device to match it. I don’t want to listen to great music on my phone, which doesn’t prioritize sound quality. I don’t want to rent music or have to be connected to a network to listen to music. I do want a simple device that plays and organizes my music very well. As someone who ripped hundreds of cds into iTunes, has bought hundreds itunes song for years, and still uses an ipod touch literally day and night. Fuck.i just cracked the screen too son of a bitch I still use my 160 Classic in the car because where I drive there’s not a lot of cellular available. Also, streaming all the time devours my data plan. I stopped using iTunes about a decade ago, opting for JRiver Media Player. It’s syncing features stop with the classic iPods because in the Touch models Apple encrypted their database and they didn’t want to deal with it. Anyway, I’ve replaced the battery twice and it’s still kicking. I guess when the drive eventually fails I’ll try to swap in an SSD and see if I can keep it going.

I had a 1st gen iPod touch that I jailbroke. I took it to college where I had wifi all over and it was basically an iPhone before even the iPhone had apps. Still have it too! I use it as a desk clock with an old clock app and the screen always on. There are way more interesting and better DAPs coming out of China, South Korea and Japan. A very niche item nowadays. I thought that the iPods I still see online were just new-old stock or refurbs. Everyone in this thread is saying “DAP” like it’s a normal word everyone knows. I have a modern Sony player that in many ways is far superior, but I have still yet to find anything that compares to the click wheel.
