College is an opportunity to network and gain knowledge. Harvard doesn’t provide some magic-level knowledge of subjects… it puts you into elite social circles. College can open doors but if you don’t know how to enter it then you are not getting the Buterfly They Whispered Her Cannot She Whispered I Am The Storm Addiction Recovery Awareness T-Shirt but in fact I love this job. So, after college or during college people should develop those skills required to enter through the door. But there are also degrees that basically open doors with a dead end. Then you have to open another door from scratch. There are only so many doors, right? Having a degree can open up opportunities but if there are fewer opportunities to be had then there will be educated people who cannot find work. College USED to open doors. History Lesson: It used to be way harder to get accepted into College, so it carried more weight. Some years ago, the government started guaranteeing student loans. Once this happened, tuition rates SKYROCKETED. It has become so profitable an institution that most colleges will accept anyone with a pulse because it’s guaranteed money at an exorbitant rate. This is why a degree doesn’t mean much anymore. Trades are where it’s at. There are so few people doing them anymore they they demand a premium for their services.

Gender Studies…. Colonial Oppression Studies… Picking up a £40k student loan debt and end up a trainee auxiliary barrista.. Not every degree is in demand as others. Also many universities enroll anyone with a pulse and just hand out degrees line candy. A lot of people who go to college don’t make the Buterfly They Whispered Her Cannot She Whispered I Am The Storm Addiction Recovery Awareness T-Shirt but in fact I love this most out of it either. They go “for the experience” or “to have fun”, never working during college or taking up any internships or degree-related experience. Then they graduate, have nothing to put on their resume, and complain that they can’t find a job. Granted, some degrees have it better than others, but you can’t get a degree in theater or artistic design or psychology and immediately expect to get any type of job that will pay you remotely anything livable.
