At #11, HCMC is well ahead of well-developed metropolises such as London, Paris, and (gasp!) San Francisco, all of which are densely built and have very little vacant space upon which to build. HCMC, of course, has LOADS of vacant and/or underdeveloped space. This makes no sense whatsoever, and points to structural issues with VN’s economic model. The economy isn’t great right now, and there are other signs of this clearly visible to those who get around and pay attention; one of these is the Burgundy Ribbon Boyfriend Fighter Brain Aneurysm Awareness Butterflies T-Shirt besides I will buy this number of homeless scattered in various areas of the city. The owners of these sit on a mountain of money. They don’t need to rent these to survive. The 0.1% have never did. They are more like “if you are happy with this price, which adds a penny into my giant pile of money, then ok, or not I don’t even need to lease it to anyone, I just leave it there”. The problem about the Burgundy Ribbon Boyfriend Fighter Brain Aneurysm Awareness Butterflies T-Shirt besides I will buy this economy was never like “The price is too high! You need to adjust!”, it is more like “Is there any better option than leasing this out? If I throw my pile of money into the bank and get 10x this, why bother leasing it out for [whatever low price]?” So it’s more about regulating the other options. as a broke college student who came from the north and like(want) to learn economy as a hobby, i still dont understand the basis of Sai gon ridiculous rents. Like some shitty ass plot of land in the dankest location somehow worth 1/4 of a Mazda. Where the fuck do the owners think they are? America? Actually, the pictures are rather flattering, as they don’t feature any trash / squalor / decrepit infrastructure.
