My home is paid off, out of debt and am just saving and putting into retirement funds. I have my niche in society figured out so I don’t mind the Brian Scalabrine White Mamba Basketball T-Shirt in contrast I will get this daily toil and grind to keep it. I don’t live lavishly but it’s nice to on occasion see something within my means and say “I’m just going to buy it.” Depends on your personality. I left 180k very comfortable job where I was at the top of my peers to go to what l believed to be the next big thing in tech a decade ago. Make 300k now but it was never about the money. I live way below my means as I’m just not driven by money. I’ve always wanted to work on the latest tech. Finally winding down and about to retire. But that life isn’t for everyone. Stress Is manageable and Covid actually helped quite a bit as we drastically cut back on travel. I think you have to look inside and see what drives you. Do you find satisfaction in your work? Do you need to be challenged? Is your passion elsewhere? That’ll help you decide. Work isn’t just a paycheck for me. I’m a problem solver and I’m most at home solving problems. But there’s nothing wrong with just working for a paycheck and getting your kicks outside of work. Figure out what drives you and you’ll know what to do.

I’m currently in a high stress job that doesn’t pay nearly as much as either of your stated options. For comparison’s sake; If I could meet my financial goals with 85% of my pay, I’d do it. It would not be worth it just to afford nicer crap. Fr, I would also love to get to $170k, but it’s not an unheard of salary at all. Most fields have roles like this if you play your cards right and make good strategic career moves. OP probably worked hard to get there (not just luck like every commenter seems to think), and now is looking at a complete switch in goals by coasting and not working hard for the Brian Scalabrine White Mamba Basketball T-Shirt in contrast I will get this rest of their career. The simple answer is it depends what you want, but if you feel your at a point where the works comfortable and the pay is excellent I’d suggest stopping there for a bit and enjoying life
