Francis kicked off his 2023 campaign with a remarkable streak of five consecutive starts, allowing just a single earned run over 32 innings. This outstanding performance earned him a microscopic 1.05 ERA, the lowest among all qualifying American League starters. His superb command and control were further evidenced by his minuscule 0.41 WHIP, which ranked second in the league.

Francis’s ability to strike out batters was equally impressive. He racked up 39 strikeouts over those five starts, averaging an extraordinary 11.3 strikeouts per nine innings. His pinpoint accuracy and deceptive fastball kept opposing hitters guessing, making it extremely difficult to make solid contact.

Beyond the counting stats, Francis’s advanced metrics were equally remarkable. His 1.2 FanGraphs WAR (Wins Above Replacement) ranked among the top pitchers in the league, highlighting his overall impact on the Blue Jays’ success. Additionally, his 4 Quality Starts (games in which the pitcher pitches at least six innings and allows three or fewer earned runs) further underscored his consistency and endurance.
