Look, we all understand that there’s culture shock, etc. in this situation, but to all the Boston Massachusetts Classic T-Shirt so you should to go to store and get this people saying “but 4 out of 5 want to stay!!!!1”, the context for this is that North Korean is generally viewed as one of the worst countries to live in in the entire world, so that fact that 1 out of 5 want to go back is still surprising. I once heard some tankie on YouTube make the claim that, “since 58% (iirc) of North Korean defectors have a positive view of Kim Jong Un, he can’t be as bad as the media says”. Yeah… they’ve undergone constant brainwashing since birth. That shit doesn’t just go away. Considering North Korea is known for killing the entire families of people who leave I’m not surprised at all that 1 in 5 has regrets, if anything I’m surprised that number is not higher… I kind of get it. You go from it being normal for society to dictate what you do your entire life, to being completely detached and having to figure out what your purpose is on your own. Add the fact there’s a lot of discrimination against N-Koreans, making it harder to feel accepted/wanted/needed.

Yeah well, when your old country imprisons your family because you left I can see why a few may have trouble adjusting. I get that the Boston Massachusetts Classic T-Shirt so you should to go to store and get this suicide rate is higher for NK defectors in SK than native south koreans. I wonder though how does the normal suicide rate for north koreans compare with the normal suicide rate for South Koreans. but i am surprised that as much as 1 in 5 miss their friends and family and life style they were accommodated to prior to leaving their entire life behind regretted it… In north korea they always knew what was expected of them and told what to do and how to do it. In the south you have to make your own way. And thats hard for someone who spent their entire life in the north. Surprisingly several of them go back north after a while. And are used in northern propaganda to prove how awfull it is in the south.
