It’s not about them being smart, it’s about them seeing the power of a battlepass model. Immortal was bringing in millions a day, and overwatch 2 started to do the same, hence cancelling the heavily replayable mode that would have been a one time purchase with no future prospect of money aside from potential DLC that would be a lot more work than just recoloring a skin and selling it for $20. Huge fan of Diablo as a series. When they announced that Diablo 4 would be $70 AND riddled with micro transactions it killed all excitement I had for the game. Before anyone responds with “well the micro transactions are just cosmetic” when did people decide that it was ok to charge money to look cool in a video game? For $70 I should be getting a massive game in which I can unlock all the content through game play (thank you tears of the kingdom). Why should someone with more money than me get to look cooler in game? It’s ridiculous that we’ve let it get to this point. The two are inherently linked in a game like this — the game design is very much affected by the monetization whether it’s cosmetic or not.

I didn’t smoke, but as far as I was concerned, if people who did smoke wanted to have places where they could smoke together, and proprietors wanted to allow it, it should be fine. The argument I heard most against it was, “but what if I want to go there, I hate the smell of smoke.” Well, if you hate the smell of smoke, then why the fuck would you want to go there? Just don’t play them, teach your kids not to play them, and ignore it. That’s the best deal you’re likely to get. Fuck blizzard. Fuck Activision. And fuck all the dickheads who say cosmetics don’t effect gameplay. The whole point of Diablo games is to level up and get cool looking shit and fuck shit up. Now the greedy fucks want to sell the game for a ridiculous price and sell cosmetics? All under the justification that the game will be ‘live service’. I’m sure the billions they will make from sales can support the cost of servers and development of an expansion without needing to try and milk the whole community. only way to make it stop is to stop buying their games not just the premium and other editions people have to stop buying any game from any developer that sells release tiers and hide 50% of the game (that should be included at launch) behind a DLC paywall. If people refuse to purchase these games eventually the developers will get the hint and stop but unfortunately enough people will keep buying it that this will continue to be a thing for the foreseeable future.
