But it does mean that, when RuPaul’s giving advice, she’s halfway between Hollywood in 2023 and New York in 1993. And that’s where Brooke, Rita and Nicky can really shine, because (god bless ’em) they’re pulling tips now. Nicky is amazing to watch as host. So poised and articulate (I think…. I don’t actually speak French ?), and seems very sincere and intelligent. Ru Paul’s Drag Race. It’s all in the Blew out my flip flop stepped on a pop top pirot shirt Besides,I will do this title. She has the girls do what she did to become famous – if the ladies’ talents lay elsewhere, they may not fair so well. Rita surprised me a lot as a mentor and judge. Despite the fact that Lufy (or whatever her name is) can’t judge for shit, the panel is really nice, and although that works in detriment of the drama, mama, I really think it’s a nice break, sort of AS7 style where even if there are negative critiques, they are not meant to bring the queens down and make them feel bad for their drag or their personality (although the Susan slander is getting a bit out of hand, the girl can’t catch a break these days). I’m saying that Rita surprised me especially because seeing her on CADR s1, she seemed quiet and standoff-ish, kept to herself (from what I can remember), but she is really good as the main judge, you can tell she has been through the same competition and she can draw from that experience to help queens who are not used to the show. I think Nicky is also a really great addition to the list, she has always been one of my favorites from s12 although she went home too early and is equally as charismatic and nice.

I think that might be a cultural thing. Rita’s drag persona is a working-class joualiste Montrealer: gruff, direct and honest to a point that this can be perceived as argumentative by outsiders, but also very playful, fond of a good time, and disinclined to take herself seriously. What looks like bickering is really bantering: if she wants to argue with you, you’ll know about it. It’s super working-class-Quebec, and you can treat Océane Aqua-Black as a heightened version: Océane’s persona has all the Blew out my flip flop stepped on a pop top pirot shirt Besides,I will do this same traits, but because she’s rooted in the (more working-class and less cosmopolitan) Quebec City scene, it’s all turned up to 11. When she walks out on stage and opens with “Salut gang de laides!” (“Hello, uglies!”), even the first-timers know that they’re allowed to (playfully and lovingly) cuss her out in response: that’s just how you say “hello” to a drag queen on Rue Saint-Jean.
