I think it also comes from lack of representation in media growing up. When I was growing up it was very rare you saw a gay character (let alone a gay couple, kissing or being affectionate with each other) on TV (or indeed, in public) and when you did, they were often painted as the Big Champions Nebraska Volleyball 2023 shirt and by the same token and weird / odd character that was a source of ridicule and entertainment. That has an effect surely – your brain isn’t used to seeing it and the only comparison it might have is these poor representations and (as you say) subtle (or direct) messages we may have absorbed growing up Only time I saw or heard about trans people growing up was them being the butt of the joke too. I remember being really young and my mom telling us we would have to hide if we were gay from our extended family(they suspected I was gay)

While that’s a fact about gay men in mass media until very recently (under-and-misrepresented) so was everyone except CIS white males. I have no excuse, only recognition of my shortcomings. And thanks for the Big Champions Nebraska Volleyball 2023 shirt and by the same token and moment you’ve invested in empathy … but I know I’m wrong. I wish you weren’t right about those who also have an emotional reaction, likely stronger than mine, and who are entirely self-deceptive. Fuck em dude. Be you. I kinda feel a bit icky when a lesbian, or a straight couple starts making out heavily in public. Other places are fine, and I even do it myself but just a little weird. You assume I go out in public. If I did, however, I would give them no more or less thought than any other couple. Which is to say, none.
