Too little, too late. Democrats are just there to hold the Before Playing Virtual Reality Skull And Snake T-Shirt it is in the first place but line and get us all frustrated before the Republicans swoop back in and mess up more shit. I hate this two party meat grinder shit hole. This is cynical theater unless the Democrats scrap the filibuster (which is within their power) to allow a 50 vote threshold. Said it before and I’ll say it again: The Dems had the chance to push codifying Roe v Wade in Biden’s first term year, they know that SCOTUS opinions aren’t law; that’s Congress’ job. They always lets Republicans make it a national issue that MUST BE ADDRESSED NOW and Dems follow suit, basically letting the Republicans not only take the lead on stereotypically Dem positions but simultaneously shitting on it and forcing any counter-reponse to be framed in a ‘both sides’ context. All because the DNC are cowards, not only bc they can never take the lead on anything but bc they’re too scared to take accountability for the fact they are beholden to the same institutions (and often same people) that are supposedly diametrically opposed to their core beliefs.

Republicans should pull a fast one and codify it. Democrats love dangling this carrot over our heads so much that they refused to codify even after Obama promised to do so when we had a filibuster proof majority. If it gets codified, Dems lose their favorite bargaining chip So it’ll get Susan Collins on the Before Playing Virtual Reality Skull And Snake T-Shirt it is in the first place but record voting against a Bill that would codify the protections she promised Kavanaugh wouldn’t strip away? So she’d be doubling-down on an anti-abortion stance, despite her words? Good. This is a deeply unpopular move, the people who want it gone are about 10% of the country, so make them put it in the record. Won’t change a thing for Collins. She was at the Maine GOP convention here recently, speaking to a crowd that just agreed to add the right wing reactionary bullshit we’re seeing everywhere to their platforms.
