I’ve unfortunately had other members of my generation (late Gen X) try to ask me don’t I think this is all just a trend or a fad? I have to say no, I don’t believe it is. This reminds me of HS classmates I had that I KNEW were gay, but terrified to come out because of the Beards are the new six pack man vintage T-Shirt but in fact I love this perception that their homosexuality was a “lifestyle choice”. My ex-husband told our 19-year-old last week that he was offended at seeing tampons in the “boys” bathroom at the high school he teaches at, which is converting to all gender restrooms. When my son – who’s cis male and an ally – expressed his opinion, his dad told him “You’re brainwashed” and I got a flurry of distraught text messages about it. That man cannot retire early enough IMO.

There’s so much hate and misunderstanding thrown at the Beards are the new six pack man vintage T-Shirt but in fact I love this LGBT+ community, who just want to be who they are. I feel like those of us who are Gen X were going to change the world when we were teens and 20-somethings and instead we’re perpetuating the same BS many of our parents did. We’re failing our kids. We need to do better. I’m gonna hop right on my soapbox, and I’ll start by saying that two of my partner’s four kids are trans and I have a handful of other friends who have trans kids as well. No. As Boston Children’s Hospital states, surgeries are not available for anyone under 18. What they can get is puberty blockers, which is a reversible treatment. Edit: that’s just the facts. All I did was bring up the hospital that’s getting the bomb threats over the misinformation.
