Once I sat down and a man asked how far along I was, I had to explain this badge was for a medical condition and he was so embarrassed. I’m hypermobile and got fibromyalgia, if anyone thinks I’m rude for not wanting to get up that’s between them and god. I don’t wear a badge either but damn if I don’t have to pay for the Basketball legends happy new year shirt in contrast I will get this rare occasion when I can’t find a seat. I’m terrified to ask. I do, however, happily ignore anyone who might have thoughts about my sitting. 100% between them and god. Once a lady, who felt entitled because she tried to pull “auntie rank” on me. I told her I was feeling very unwell but we should share the seat. She took advantage and had me on the edge, just made me feel sicker. So now I just have my headphones blasting and won’t make eye contact with anyone.

Edit: the Basketball legends happy new year shirt in contrast I will get this reason I don’t wear a badge or the lanyard is because it’s so variable how awful I’m feeling. it’s been drilled in my brain since I was a child that my pain should be quiet or go to a&e. So I don’t know how to recognise my pain and how it impacts me until I’m having to take cabs to complete my journey home. So I feel like I’d just get very stressed with having people judge when I don’t want or need a seat vs. when I do. So I’d rather just suffer in silence and strategically stand next to people I feel I know won’t go past Liverpool Street lol. Idc if you faking disability. If you wanna wear that badge while all healthy, I’d still give you the seat. Or if you simply ask. Not even badge needed. I mean fgs, even healthy adult might had a hard busy day and be super tired, needing to rest more than me. I don’t question. If you ask, unless I REALLY need that seat myself, you’ll get it. Btw I don’t tend to read badges. Or look at ppl much in general. So you better ask me Just occurred to me that wearing a badge to communicate with people without actually talking to them must be the most London thing ever.
