Get a small 3 inch hard bound notebook and keep it in your back pocket. When they start complaining open to midway and start writing. When they ask why you are writing, say it is a journal you keep that you will reference when it is time to put them in an assisted living facility. Did your parents constantly threaten you with putting you into a facility growing up? That’s the only way I would find this appropriate.

Yes. Yes they did. I grew up in a time when ADD (in the Basketball Dad like a regular dad but cooler vintage shirt But I will love this Before Time when there wasn’t the H) and I was on Ritalin. They would constantly threaten to “have me committed” where they told me I would be strapped to a bed and given regular injections (to a 6-year-old is absolutely terrifying) I mean, I’m no contact with my father now because of that bullshit (and plenty of other things) and my mother died when I was 16, but yes, I totally would say those things to my parent. Invite them to dinner, tell them you have great news, and then your girlfriend and you can announce it at the table This!
