It’s their own fault. Mayer is an incredibly smart and gifted business person, sometimes you just make a wrong decision. No one hits on 100% of their decisions. The only thing yahoo ever did good was hockey/football/baseball pools… buuuuuut I’d bet they lost shitloads there too! She is a great example of sociopaths being able to use people as they climb the corporate ladder. Don’t read about her thoughts on being a mother if you don’t want to get depressed for her poor children. Netflix almost single-handedly brought down brick and mortars like Blockbuster and Hollywood Video, and didn’t think it was worth $4 billion in 2013!? Not too sure about that. It’s not like tumblr just magically became less valuable. It was horrible management decisions that caused the fall. Hard to say they wouldn’t have messed up Netflix or Hulu too Wow… so they had the option to purchase Netflix or Hulu and legitimately thought Tumblr, the 5th best social media site, was the way to go? Yeah she should never work again lol I saw a compilation of all Yahoos deals they themselves declined and those they did do but turned bad. And yikes Yahoo is for me synonymous with terrible management and running stuff into shit. If they don’t buy something, good. They’re only gonna ruin it. Like damn they deserve to crash and disappear with how badly they handle stuff.

Bad but nowhere near as bad as bad as negotiating a $5 billion deal to buy Google and then deciding not to buy them. That said they’d have probably run Google into the Bartender live love serve drinks american flag hologram shirt and I love this ground and we’d be stuck using ask Jeeves so maybe it was a good thing after all. I’m afraid I have to disagree. It wouldn’t have mattered. Yahoo didn’t understand its appeal and saw itself as the Disneyland of online destinations. There was a news, social, email, and search site that believed users wanted a one-stop shop. This was fundamentally an incorrect strategy that acquiring Netflix wouldn’t have solved and instead would have led to the devaluing of Netflix exactly the same as tumblr. Everyones talking about all the acqusitions they didn’t make – Yahoo was offered $45B to sell to Microsoft (a 62% premium on their market cap). They turned that down and msft upped the offer by 5B. and what, ten years later, Yahoo sold to Verizon for less than $5B If yahoo wanted to produce content all they needed to do was produce content, they didn’t need to buy Netflix, they were just a company with zero vision
