Call centres jobs are a step up for a lot of folks who didn’t have better opportunities in life. But those are your technical support or business process outsourcing call centres. A lot of the call centers also have legitimate sections as well. A lot of employees start out in the legitimate side, but then get tempted to do the spam stuff for more money. I saw a video about this (that makes me an expert!) that said most of these spam centers do operate a legit call center business to avoid getting shut down by the police It is common for dayshift workers to be regular service providers, and then at night scammers use the same equipment. So when cops raid, they have logs and accounting showing legit work. I think I found it on Reddit a while ago about a guy who sent them glitter bombs but he also ended up going deep down the rabbit hole and colaborated with other YouTubers to hack their cameras and found an ex-scammer to infiltrate. I’m sure someone here will remember the channel Jim Browning. Trilogy Media. Scammer Payback. And then yeah someone else mentioned Mark Rober who kinda just pranks the mules they have operating in the US but his videos are pretty entertaining.

In fact many Indians have been a victim as well. Just because most spam callers are Indians doesn’t mean most Indians are spam callers. I had a fun time wasting 3 hours of an American IRS scammer’s time. Saw a news report about the “warnings” they were mailing to trick unsuspecting people. Let him think I believed I owed $40K for property taxes on land I didn’t own, in a state I’ve never been to. Gave him a fake name and other personal details, and lo and behold he was able to confirm the debt! He thought he had me so roped in that he gave me his direct phone number so he’d be the only “special agent” I’d work with. On Day 3, when he was going to withdraw payment for his services from my bank and just needed the account info to get it started, I told him “wait, a message just popped up on the website. It says tell [name] he’s a [long list of expletives]” while making fun of him for wasting so much time for nothing. He tried to talk over me saying some vile stuff, but I just kept going until he hung up. Then I called him back at random time for days with different numbers, sometimes really late at night because he always answered. I kept this up for about 3-4 days before I got a message that the number was no longer in service.
