That’s why when the requirement changed, lots of districts added a few minutes to the start and end of their days; we can have school for fewer days and have extra minutes built in for snow days instead of making them up. I have other comments in this thread with links/quotes and such, but from everything I’ve read the school/administration fucked up and just didn’t work with the students properly to make sure they knew what they needed to graduate. That’s why they contacted everyone literally days before graduation was scheduled to happen, they waited ’til the last minute to check. Apparently 17 students are already eligable as it’s all small stuff/tests/single class they didn’t know they needed (according to the students at least). The parents were quoted for blaming the administration for not communicating exactly what the students needed and considering how many have apparently already fixed the issue I don’t think it’s the students who are lazy or anything like that.

That makes sense. You don’t end up with 80% of your class failing to graduate unless somebody screwed up big time. Kids went to a four day a week school here in Oregon. All legit and actually a very good small community high school! Apparently 17 students have already completed the requirements, plus there’s this A mandatory senior parent meeting was subsequently scheduled, where parents threw the majority of the blame on the administrators. According to the guardians, poor actions from leadership — such as last-minute policy changes, lack of communication, and administrative error — are the reasons for such a disaster. Thankfully, following the heated exchange, parents and educators were able to have some productive dialogue and plan to work together to avoid any other conflicts such as this in the future. There’s more in previous comments I’ve made in this thread, but I found a bunch of quotes from students who just had a test or some small class they needed to complete, nothing major. Considering 17 or so have already fixed it, I’d imagine it’s more of an administration issue not the students being lazy or missing class. Plus with what the parents said, it looks like the school didn’t communicate properly exactly what the students needed to graduate, and realized only a week or so before graduation. Or at least that’s when they actually decided to notify everyone. Could be wrong though, obviously. Reportedly, officials running the school located in Marlin, Texas sent letters to parents of the senior class only a few days before the scheduled graduation, notifying them of their child’s inability to participate…..
