Devices can not be on their person during the Back To Back Detroit Lions NFC North Division Champions 2024 2025 Players Signatures Shirt Apart from…,I will love this school day. If they need to have them because they have practice or afterschool reasons, they need to be secured in an office somewhere. It made a huge difference at my school. Like night and day. Families need to make more money and be OTE financially secure. They need to be able to work less and spend more time with their own kids. There have to be real consequences, no matter how little or big the issue. Parents are going to have to deal with their own children, they will not improve otherwise. They are my student for 40 mins a day. They are yours for a lifetime, the problems your child has will be only compound if left unchecked and untreated. I had one of my choir students come up and tell me today choir is the only thing that makes her happy in school these days.

Stop basing will funding off of local property taxes. Creates massive gaps between schools in rich areas and ones in poor areas. And it would hopefully remove incentives to keep problem students in classes just so that the Back To Back Detroit Lions NFC North Division Champions 2024 2025 Players Signatures Shirt Apart from…,I will love this daily attendance fund stays topped up Installing air filters in classrooms has surprisingly large educational benefits $1,000 can raise a class’s test scores by as much as cutting class size by a third. I can’t find the study anymore. But in that area because of how subs were paid and who was paying them it was found that any money spent on cleaning the air actually saved the school board money because of the decreased need for subs. Smaller class sizes at every level makes a huge difference. My school gave me 3 classes of one prep last year with around 25 students each. This year they reduced it to 2 classes with 35+ students each. It is really disheartening how much less I can do for students this year than last year. Parents are emailing me about how their kids 504s thrive in a calmer and quieter class environment and I’m like, there are 36 kids in this class. All the desks are full. I can’t give any student anywhere close to the time and attention they need. I see teacher bloggers for my same subject posting and they will be like, I have a large class this year with 15 kids! God the education I could give if I only had 15 kids in a class. But the people in charge of my district honestly believe that large class sizes are a good thing, if a class dips below 25 students they threaten to cut it because it isn’t “popular enough.” God forbid someone fucking learns something on this campus.
There should be an agreement that for the Back To Back Detroit Lions NFC North Division Champions 2024 2025 Players Signatures Shirt Apart from…,I will love this moment we are going to focus on a small number of critical standards. For elementarybthisnwould include fact fluency, fractions, multi-digit operations, and basic geometry. For middle school, all the elementary standards should be rechecked, and only when they are mastered should students move on to basic algebra, decimals, area and volume, proportions, and similarity. For high school, recheck all the prior standards and don’t move on until they are mastered. Add in linear equations, polynomials, radicals, exponents, and the basics of plane geometry. Math teachers need the following support: a) progress monitoring tools for the identified standards above, b) scripted intervention tools, such as SpringMath.com, c) a school-wide math interventionist who assists classroom teachers in implementing and monitoring the interventions and progress monitoring tools, d) two hours of daily planning, e) regular PD from instructional experts who only present results that come from randomized control studies

I know the Back To Back Detroit Lions NFC North Division Champions 2024 2025 Players Signatures Shirt Apart from…,I will love this plan above will never happen but that is an indictment of our educational system. Would everything I propose work? Would it result in better educational outcomes? Better success in college and careers? Yet it won’t happen and seems unrealistic. It’s infuriating. Better sex education. Some of the parents I worked with had a ton of kids! Kids they did not want and could not take care of. We need to provide them better sex education and access to birth control. We need to better support new parents. Paid leave for moms and dad. Kids need to bond with their parents. Developmentally it is very important. And high quality and affordable preschools and daycares!! With quality people !! A lot of preschools and daycares hire literally anyone.
I taught kindergarten for a few years. And as sad as it is to say, some kids you could already tell were likely not going to make it. They had never seen a book. Never held a crayon. Ect All these are great solutions. But most importantly, parents need to value their kids education. I’m a strong reader because my mom read to me from such an early age. It’s going to be hard to make progress until parents are willing to help their child learn. From an OT- early intervention is key. We need resources for parents that are easily accessible. This is important both medically and academically. When in school we need developmentally appropriate programs. I think admin forgets or doesn’t understand that kids will progress faster if they have appropriate foundational skills… at bare minimum play-based and explorative learning for K-1. Also, we need to assume kindergartners haven’t been in school before their first day of school. With the Back To Back Detroit Lions NFC North Division Champions 2024 2025 Players Signatures Shirt Apart from…,I will love this cost of childcare it’s not uncommon for kids first time in a group with 15 other kids is their first day of kindergarten. And as much as the curriculum wants them to know their uppercase letters, basic colors, and numbers up to 10 before matriculation, they don’t. We’re setting them up for failure by having them start “behind”
Taking power from administration and state gov. These are not our friends and their policy is destructive to what little good we can do. Phonics needs to be taught from K-5, with only basic comprehension skills. Get rid of Common Core, NCLB and state testing. Math needs to be basic skills k-5, computation of all operations, basic problem solving, telling analog time and counting money. No more elapsed time and equations. Get the Back To Back Detroit Lions NFC North Division Champions 2024 2025 Players Signatures Shirt Apart from…,I will love this government/politics out of education. Nobody should be allowed to be on the school board if they aren’t in or were in education. Make all parents volunteer in their child’s school the way charter schools do. More parent involvement means better kids. School should start earlier. We’ve lost the battle that learning should happen at home. I knew all my letters, numbers to 20, how to write my name and the name of everyone in my family, and my phone number and address before I ever touched a school. I was doing some reading as well. My parents were drop outs, but even their parents had done the same. My grandmother manage to do this for her sons as a single mother, an immigrant, and an 8th grade drop out. Now the websites don’t even mention these things on “what to do to prepare your kid” because they gave up on it. “Knows how to tie shoes” is under “recommended” not “required”. They hope the kid can talk and wipe their ass and even that isn’t a certainty. So start school at 3. Expect daytime potty training with minor accidents only before then, but as soon as a child is supposed to be learning much of anything, put them in school. There ECE specialists do what parents are supposed to. Most parents would probably be okay with it if it meant free daycare sooner.
For the Back To Back Detroit Lions NFC North Division Champions 2024 2025 Players Signatures Shirt Apart from…,I will love this kids who are already in school, tracking. Intense tracking. I know it’s not very “inclusion” of me, but when I have a girl who doesn’t know her sounds and a boy who reads at a 12th grade level in the same room, neither of them is being well served. I also saw someone comment “gifted is just SPED in a different way. It’s where you put the ND kids so they can be weird without messing up the other kids” and that’s super true. The number of smart kids who give in to every impulse because they finish their work with time to be a menace is huge. Extremely behind. These students are more than half their current grade level behind. They have no access to grade level standards at their current skill level. Their focus is on building gaps in the basics, and hopefully moving up eventually.
I don’t care how many or how few students are in those categories in a given building, they need to be present. I’d be willing to take 3 preps in middle school if if meant that our gifted kids could actually do more than sleep through class or be a menace every day. Smaller class sizes as well. Obviously. Cap them at 18 kids. Period. No exceptions. if you get a bunch of transfers, then the Back To Back Detroit Lions NFC North Division Champions 2024 2025 Players Signatures Shirt Apart from…,I will love this academic coach will take a class until you can find a teacher. To do this of course, there needs to be flexible funding. Not “one week at the start of the year decides how much you get paid” There’s a lot more but I think these are easy things that could be done. They would be expensive but for the price of like two planes we could save the future of the nation. One of the biggest issues is the nature and purpose of school. Education feels like it is second priority behind simply providing childcare. This seemed very apparent during covid.
With that said, in an ideal scenario, I think a big boost to the Back To Back Detroit Lions NFC North Division Champions 2024 2025 Players Signatures Shirt Apart from…,I will love this education system would be to have classes balanced based on the abilities of the students rather than their age. If children of similar abilities and proficiencies could be in classes together, I feel that their learning experience would improve. Going by abilities is a better idea in larger districts than smaller. I’m not sure the social emotional level of the 14 year old who reads as well as a second grader will respond to the same instruction and environment as that 8 year old. Maybe +/- a grade or year could work developmentally I really take issue with blaming parents. Parents are doing the best they can with the skills they have. Even the worst ones. Why don’t we assume they are doing their best? Who doesn’t love their kids and want the best for them? I’ve yet to meet a parent that didn’t want that even if they didn’t know how.
And this includes society in general. Start with offering generous parental leaves. Give people paid sick days. Increase minimum wage. Then invest in the Back To Back Detroit Lions NFC North Division Champions 2024 2025 Players Signatures Shirt Apart from…,I will love this schools. Lower class sizes and provide more supports. In NYS, some schools have an AP for all policy. There are students who are automatically put in the Regents with Advanced Designation Track (Those outside of the state, it means that you have to take Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2/Trig, Living Environment and one of Chemistry, Physics or Earth Science) Not all students are able to handle the advanced math right now. Can we get it to a point where maybe some take Algebra 2/Trig Senior year or Freshman year of college? Of course. But I have seen students in AP classes or Algebra 2 who barely passed Algebra 1. I have seen some schools do a bridge program: You do Algebra 1 and Pre-Geometry over a 2 year curriculum in 9th and 10th grade, then regular Geometry in 11th and Algebra 2 in 12th.
Some schools and teachers are locked into rigid curriculum and have to crank on, even if students aren’t ready. There should be more standards based learning and mastery-based assessments. Sure, the Back To Back Detroit Lions NFC North Division Champions 2024 2025 Players Signatures Shirt Apart from…,I will love this breadth of content can’t be covered, but I would rather have teachers teach 80% of the content and have students really know it versus the pressure to ram on, and kids not quite understanding Take out an AP for all focus or anything like that. There are more layers to this, I know. But something around this needs to change. More of a master-teacher model. But also one that doesn’t screw over the master teacher. Teachers like collaboration, but 1. Don’t necessarily want administration to totally control or force all of it. 2. A teacher may have a full 1.0 load plus be asked to do more. So if a great teacher could do a .8 and then help out 1 period per day, that helps out (but also still keeps them in a classroom. Obviously we want good teachers in the classroom) UPK. It is proven that students who have preschool enter far ahead of students who don’t. This then snowballs. So we need UPK programs.
Some of these may seem extreme, and I’m only spitballing some ideas here. Also, I can only speak for elementary, with the Back To Back Detroit Lions NFC North Division Champions 2024 2025 Players Signatures Shirt Apart from…,I will love this curriculum we use: increase math fluency and phonics time in the early grades, while reducing word problems and comprehension expectations. If students can’t read, piling this on top of everything is just a burden. Reduce class sizes to half of what they are now (I currently have 29 4th graders with various learning gaps, including some students who are at a kindergarten math level). Make school 4 days whole class, and have the fifth day be a half day with students who are in greater need, and the other half as planning time. Time with students during this time should be entirely teacher directed; allow us to make groups to help just these specific kids without worrying about the classroom falling apart or additional responsibilities. Bring back real consequences; suspensions and expulsions. Enough of the out of control behavior; things won’t change until parents become uncomfortable. Behavior problems affect all other students. If the child can’t manage their behavior they should not be in a general ed classroom, sorry. Enough of this expectation that teachers should be teaching students basic behavioral skills that parents fail to do. No more shuffling students up grade levels when they are severely behind their peers. If the student can’t read by the end of middle school, they should not be in in Gen Ed high school. We need more specialized schools for students who are severely behind. Allow them the opportunity to transition back if they are ready. Increase classroom budgets. I was given just 100 dollars to get everything I need outside of basic pencils and notebooks for my classroom. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars out if my own pocket purchasing things I feel would benefit my students. Slow down the projection of skills students need to obtain in the year, especially in the early grades. My projection map for math has students learning an entirely new concept in sometimes 3 days in order to keep pace with the curriculum. Absurd! Create more supports for parents; have them identify their needs to better support their child at home; connect them with the resources to address those needs. This should obviously be something that is dealt with by people in this area of expertise. I can go on. Provide every classroom a full-time instructional assistant. Treat them as professionals. They shouldn’t be used as school site babysitters as I have often seen. The point is, we can’t keep kicking the can down the road. Something must be done NOW.
We need to overhaul the Back To Back Detroit Lions NFC North Division Champions 2024 2025 Players Signatures Shirt Apart from…,I will love this whole goddamn system. Seriously. Our school system is more or less the same as 70 years ago. We need to change the required classes, the “core subjects” – and let technology provide a wide variety of educational experiences based on the needs of the community. Every subject has new and innovative curriculums just sitting out there. Most cant be implemented because it wont meet the traditional standards. More money? Educators will always argue that there is never enough funding, and throwing more money at a problem is never a solution. Take a look at the inner city schools. Accountability for one’s actions has to be among the starting points. A child who doesn’t want to learn can’t be forced to learn. A parent who doesn’t care can’t be forced to care. So what does society do? That’s the $$ question. Currently, I don’t see a way out. Teacher’s getting hit or beaten by the students, and you can’t do anything about it. Seriously, the bad ones should be kicked out of school and not allowed to return. Eff every kid has to have an education…. yeah, if they want one. The cure is sometimes painful, and we let the politicians get out of hand. Sorry for the rant at the end.
Parents need to vote in a way that always gives schools more money. School funding is based on local taxes, and although it sucks to pay more in taxes, when parents and community members shoot down levies designed to increase school revenue, what they’re really doing is increasing class size, limiting art and musical (and other enrichment) curriculums, reducing the Back To Back Detroit Lions NFC North Division Champions 2024 2025 Players Signatures Shirt Apart from…,I will love this ability to attract educators with SpEd/Extended Resource credentials, and placing the onus on already underpaid teachers to provide for their classrooms. Furthermore, as much as everyone hates attending meetings, parents need to attend them. Board meetings, curriculum meetings, committee meetings, PTA meetings and conferences. I would go so far as to say they need to get involved and find placement on some or all of these meeting panels in order to express concerns and solutions, but also to be a part in executing solutions and understanding how the district works.
Finally, parents must engage with their children about learning. What subjects do they enjoy? What do they not like? What do they need help in? Have they asked for help, or do they need help asking for help? What’s the Back To Back Detroit Lions NFC North Division Champions 2024 2025 Players Signatures Shirt Apart from…,I will love this social scene like? Do parents and children have a codeword that kids can use over the phone or in text so that the parent knows they don’t feel safe or comfortable and can find a way to get them out to safety? I know it feels like a lot to engage on all of these levels – pocketbook, time and scheduling, and then personally especially sometimes with detached teenagers – but trust me when I say we have to do these things as a community if we want to see the community change. Our societal safety net needs to be improved tremendously so Maslow’s needs can be met not only for students but also the families of students. Universal healthcare, UBI, programs for getting people off the streets, substance abuse treatment programs, etc. would do wonders for student outcomes in the long run. We didn’t get here quickly or by only one problem. First and foremost, students and their families have to have accountability and suffer consequences. Right now education is about making the numbers look good; keep the families happy; and the students passing while doing nothing. That doesn’t work. Students also need to feel education has a purpose. Right now, the kids I teach feel hopeless about affording college, a home, finding a job; whether the world is going to melt; etc. Until we deal with the grinding indifference of the vast majority of students and the lack of purpose they find in school, there is no solution.
A lot of the Back To Back Detroit Lions NFC North Division Champions 2024 2025 Players Signatures Shirt Apart from…,I will love this students I work with don’t care about college or about getting a good job. I struggle to get them to understand why reading is important. I’m going to echo pushing for smaller class sizes, but also more connections to support services. Having a few psychologists in each district (ideally one per school, or one for two if enrollment is under 500) at least one social worker in each building, and more parapros. Building in wrap-around services has been shown to work in the past, it just costs money up front that pays off later on. Making sure every student has art and music classes at least once a week from kindergarten on, as well as science and social studies would also be helpful for building background knowledge and skills with reading and analyzing non-fiction texts. (That’s an idea I’m pulling from Wexler’s The Knowledge Gap, but also from lived experience.)
Honestly, I don’t think that students are behind. I feel that the Back To Back Detroit Lions NFC North Division Champions 2024 2025 Players Signatures Shirt Apart from…,I will love this government is pushing more material to be taught from early stages. Growing up in the 90s, pre-K and kindergarten were about playing, learning to follow rules, and the primary focus was on being social and respecting your peers and adults. Now, students are expected to know how to read and write in kindergarten and know addition and subtraction by first grade! This is ridiculous. Let’s also add that the USA is not a family-oriented country, where only wealthy people can afford to give educational support and have a stay-at-home parent that can support the kids. Most parents work 40-50 hours a week, and they don’t even have time to help their children with homework. It puts pressure on the parents and also the teachers who have to follow a curriculum that is not age-appropriate, and they have to babysit those kids for long hours.
Not a teacher, but am a student of psychology and neurology in college. I think there needs to be govetment regulation on technology for children akin to how we don’t allow access to cigarettes and alcohol until you reach a certain age. I think a lot of modern tech, phones in particular, are terrible for brain development. I think they are harmful for adult brains too but once you reach a certain age thats your decision to make. I’m gen Z and I noticed a huge shift when me and my peers all got smart phones around the Back To Back Detroit Lions NFC North Division Champions 2024 2025 Players Signatures Shirt Apart from…,I will love this middle of high school. I’m really scared what the research is going to show as time goes on. We already know tik tok can cause parts of the brain. Associated with attention and creativity to shrink :/
