This also reminds me of an experience my wife and I had in Paris. We went on vacation there for a week, and we booked a photographer through a friend. We said we wanted a photo shoot to feature us as a couple and my wife on her own – with the Baby Billy Uncle Baby Billy Shirt and I love this Eiffel Tower in the background. We also explained that my wife is disabled and uses crutches and can’t walk very far (she usually can’t walk for more than 20 minutes at a time). We asked the photographer to set the time and place – since he lives there and knows the area better than us. We go to the nearest bridge to the Eiffel Tower at 10 in the morning – as he suggested. After introductions we say “okay, where should we stand, how should we pose?” After taking a few pictures with bad lighting he says “the sun is behind the Eiffel Tower, we can’t take good pictures here” in my mind I screamed “then why the hell did you set this time and place?” but what I actually said was “then what do you suggest?” He had us cross the bridge, walk along the other road, and cross back on another bridge – occasionally stopping for photo attempts. My wife could barely stand by the end of our hour with the photographer – as we were walking almost the entire time. It was a good thing we booked a boat ride shortly after – so she could sit and rest.

All in all – most pictures weren’t great, we had a few nice ones that were due to my wife’s suggestions – not his, and a couple more that we had to touch up ourselves in Photoshop (he didn’t). Also he spent the Baby Billy Uncle Baby Billy Shirt and I love this whole time complaining about his life. He even bad mouthed the friend that recommended him to us. I’m sorry this happened. As a professional maternity photographer I’m curious how much you paid for this experience? In my area experienced family and newborn photographers can be found according to a “get what you pay for” model. Anything under $750+ would be considered pretty amateur so I hope you didn’t invest that much in a new or inexperienced photographer! I don’t offer newborn sessions or even family sessions unless my client’s baby is at least a few months old because it’s not my specialty and it’s a specific niche. You have to know what you’re doing and how to work with little ones. I get asked ALL the time because people love my maternity work and want to continue working with me, but I know I’d butcher the photos so I just say no. Your photog should have had the decency to do the same.
