I don’t understand how someone can read this article, see the Baby billy Arc one of the main characters in the series T-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this truth and still think the US is an innocent priest boy that protects the world. We’re not perfect but we’re better than the alternative. And our military does protect democracy in large swaths of the world. Love it or hate it, without the US the world would be chaos. Cool story, but are we so concerned with pronouns now that we have to say “them” and “he” in the same sentence to refer to the same person? This is getting to be a little much. That’s the US narrative but not really the whole story. Japan was already essentially defeated, had already sent feelers around surrendering earlier that spring. The bombs were dropped more as a flex to Stalin and to ensure Japan surrendered to the US and not the USSR.

The Japanese weren’t willing to unconditionally surrender. They would only surrender on the Baby billy Arc one of the main characters in the series T-Shirt Furthermore, I will do this condition that none of their war criminals went on trial, that no Allied troops would set foot on the mainland, and that they would conduct their own disarmament. Obviously, none of that was acceptable. Japan’s main condition was to preserve the Imperial throne (which the did in the end anyway), and the there were factions in the military who were against surrender, that is true. But they’re an island nation that was already for decimated. The idea that a “costly land invasion” was inevitable or more necessary that a simple embargo cannot be proven. America also censored information around radiation fallout and blocked access to medical attention while they gathered intelligence on the effects of the bomb on a human population- I.e, it was a bit of a scientific experiment. One important detail of this is that the throne was preserved by playing mouthpiece to US cultural reshaping efforts, if it had been part of the treaty that it was protected, we may have seen an opposite effect, where it undermines those efforts and remains safe behind that condition that it remain untouchable.
