More of a Gene Siskel quote, really. Ebert was the Axolotl Cute Axolotl With Present Christmas Shirt in other words I will buy this easy one to please. He tried to find the good even in bad movies. If Ebert didn’t like the movie, you knew it was trash. “Appearing in your own film and laying a rose on Schindler’s grave breaks the fourth wall and is a major faux pas in film. I thought you would know that by now, Steve!” C- You’re joking but I’ve deadass seen people have this logic that “nothing can get a perfect score because nothing can be perfect”. It’s especially aggravating on performance reviews where it’s like “how would you rate yourself out of 5?” Uhhhh no: the top score just means its the best that you’ve seen not the best approaching infinity to absolute perfection.

They said that after some therapy they realized that line of thinking was the Axolotl Cute Axolotl With Present Christmas Shirt in other words I will buy this result of a demeaning father who “would’ve asked me why didn’t I come up with the cure for cancer sooner.” “If nothing can be perfect, then the perfect notion of nothing being able to reach perfection is in itself imperfect. Ergo, the statement ‘nothing can be perfect’ is wrong, and I have submitted something perfect.” You have no idea how much you triggered me. My last job’s manager was a toxic POS. Performance review was on a 5 star system. He straight up told me that he never gives 5’s, and 4’s are for REALLY exceeding your goals. On top of it that was the year I got promoted to supervisor, got a raise, and won a company award. He begrudgingly gave me 4 stars with a warning NOT to expect a 4 next year. I couldn’t fucking believe that performance review. I quit and moved on from that job before the next review. It was complete dogshit process. Honestly my current job is one of those “I’m just going to give out the average rating no matter what you do” and it’s nice in the sense that I know I can basically do fuck-all for productivity and still get the average. It’s only bad if you’re really trying hard to advance but I’d rather jerk off r/wsb than work my ass off to have a shot at getting a 5% raise instead of 3%.
