The other thing you need to understand is very little privacy in jails. The facility I work at does have a single shower so it affords some privacy, some facilities are open bay showers. Also, you may share a cell with another individual or indivuals, generally the Awesome yes I Really Do Need All These Books T-Shirt and I will buy this toilet in the cell has no privacy from the others. So prepare mentally for that as well. I’ve been arrested a few times, put in a cell once, and that was the only time they strip searched me. I saw your comments about being anxious, what I would suggest is to try to find ways of coping with it now, before you turn yourself in. Don’t expect to be able to appeal to the officer’s sympathy, they either will not care, or most likely will follow through with their job anyway. Also take out any piercings or important jewelry you wear, I was lucky and only lost a cheap lip ring, but don’t risk it. I’m sorry you’re dealing with these feelings and going through this, it can be scary. You can and will get through this though.

Awesome yes I Really Do Need All These Books T-Shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

I was stripped searched once in my late teens and it was so businesslike and unattached, it wasn’t traumatic at all. The person was bored and official but also sort of gentle. Idk what country you’re in but in Australia if they think you’re at risk to yourself (even if you’re trying to report as a victim of a sexual assault) they can literally push you to the Awesome yes I Really Do Need All These Books T-Shirt and I will buy this ground, verbally threaten you with violence and cut your clothes off you. If you get strip searched, it will be at the jail. Not everybody gets strip searched. Policies and procedures vary by state and agency. Commonly though, it’s drug and weapons offenses, and anybody going into general population, not just staying overnight. Strip searching does require you to take off all clothing, including underwear, but nobody will touch you during the strip search, it is visual only. Also, strip searches should only be done by the same sex, not opposite sex. Pat downs, however, may be performed by opposite sex, depending upon state and agency policies and procedures. What could you do to avoid this? Bond is generally available to you, find out how much it is. If you can afford to, have everything set up to post bond immediately upon turning yourself in. You will typically still need to be booked into jail, and given another court date. However, if you post immediately, you may not even have to change out of your clothes into jail clothes.
