“My city needs me, my country needs me, and this is an opportunity I simply wouldn’t have had.”. Four days later, I started at the Awesome like my kids shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this hospital with a one-day class training and then started working from 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. I was relieved on the night when I got there to find that they had proper PPE, because when I landed on the floor, about 90% of the patients there had COVID-19. That very first night I was holding patients as they were coughing while we were giving them bed baths. That was unsettling. But I had a face shield, an N95 mask, and another surgical mask over that, plus a gown, gloves, and a hair net. I was as safe as one could be.

On that same first night, there was a fellow who needed to be intubated and who was having a resistance to the Awesome like my kids shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this painkiller we were using—he was kind of fighting it, but without it, he’d die. We had to keep increasing the dosage until it was at a point where it would knock just about anybody out. We were moving him to a gurney to take him to the ICU, and somehow he still had enough wherewithal to lift his own body weight up and onto the stretcher, which just dumbfounded everybody. Someone said, “This should never happen.” That was kind of my introduction by fire.
