The result was people who don’t give a shit about fish being responsible for them, which resulted in all those cool pics of dead aquariums. They don’t want experts. It sucked too, because they were my favorite, but after like the 5th one died in a row after just a couple days – weeks, I just gave up on them because they were relatively much more expensive than most of the other fish, especially on my high school budget. I got a fish from Walmart back in the day and she lived for four years, she passed the night after we moved and I was distraught. Actually after that we got more fish from there who also lived 3-4 years

Probably a good thing. At our local walmart, the tanks were always in awful condition. I bought some tetras from them when I first set up my tank, and the employee, clearly untrained, filled the plastic bag with cold water. Most of them died before I got home. Growing up, I can’t recall the aquarium section looking less than well kept. I (my parents) bought many fish from there for my home aquarium, we always had a good experience. They even had a giant Pacu that was named “Big Bertha” and going to see it was the highlight of every Walmart trip. I always made sure Big Bertha was okay before we left haha.
