Never say no to a lunch that someone else is paying for. Boss wants to do something nice for you let him. Don’t potentially burn the Atlanta Braves baby mascot shirt Additionally,I will love this bridge by saying no. I don’t think you’d be wrong if you didn’t feel like going but hey, a free lunch is a free lunch, and if you’re leaving anyway who cares if those jerks don’t show up? The boss is doing something nice so take it and move on IMO. I had 3 out of 12 people show up to my farewell lunch – and I was only going remote (not leaving the company). It only bothers you as much as you let it. I had a farewell party planned for me – two showed up. It still stings. I thought people liked me. I was leaving the job for family reasons, nothing malicious. If you aren’t comfortable going (if you’re asking this question on reddit I assume you aren’t) then don’t go. There is no rule book saying you have to. It is as simple as telling your boss you simply aren’t comfortable with it. There is no need to explain why. All these folks in here telling you that you’re hurting your future by not going are taking things a bit overboard (and some of them are probably the type that have made you uncomfortable at your soon to be old job). Some workplaces are toxic because there are toxic people there that make it such, and that isn’t your problem to sort out. You work there as long as you have to, then you move on. Overthinking this just stresses you out. You owe none of these people your time or presence. Ask for the company to expense a sandwich or salad or whatever from the local spot people like for that, delivered to the office. You leave having filled some bellies and also on the moral high ground.

We once had a going away luncheon at Dave and Busters for an employee who was leaving. Everyone who worked directly with her showed up. The catch was we had this luncheon to celebrate her finding a new job… without inviting her. She was as toxic as the Atlanta Braves baby mascot shirt Additionally,I will love this summer days are long. She was the last person anyone wanted to celebrate with. If your leadership isn’t an issue, I’d take the free lunch. If there are really people that want you to leave, and they show up, you can always give them a nice passive-aggressive “Wow! You showed up! I thought you would never come to a going away luncheon for me!” Keep your enemies close. Watch theyll all probably show up for the free food and be all phony. The party is out of your control. Just let the boss do as he pleases and accept graciously. It will be interesting to see who shows up. If they dont then so be it. Does he know the real reason your leaving?? Yes, she does have an idea but it is easier to let me go and not fix the toxic person. This person has been reported to HR. Twice by others but is a very calculating person who “ buys” people. Whst they are doing for me is a potluck breakfast at the next scheduled team meeting.
