So this will cause serious problems for IVF clinics. They will fertilise as many eggs as they can in any given treatment. So now those eggs that don’t get used will have to be kept on ice for eternity, highly impractical and very expensive. But, I think that classifying frozen, but fertilized embryos as children is NOT the way to go about this. That is going to be a slippery slope. The lack of thought and education is staggering. It’s stupid but it’s sort of consistent. What I’d love to see someone do is drag this to its logical conclusion. If they’re people, then they should not be held indefinitely. This is going to go into some weird legal places if they ever decide this means the embryos have the right to be implanted and mature. We’re already forcing women to carry rape pregnancies to term.
