Second this. I have never climbed a large mountain, and would never want to, but even on relatively easy hikes, after about 5 minutes of rest and hydration one can get cold, truly chilled, from cooling sweat. On a normal hike you just put your pack on again and start walking, and pretty soon you’re nice and warm, but I can totally see how that would be fatal on a real mountain. My mum volunteered for a local search and rescue for a while and told me to never unzip my jacket, especially if lost. Apparently many people have died and been found with their jackets unzipped, their hands having gotten so cold they couldn’t zip up again. Just from getting a bit too warm while hiking around! Wonder how much of those findings are related to what they call paradoxical undressing. One symptom of hypothermia strangely enough is hot flashes, and many people are found undressed, sometimes completely naked after death from hypothermia. Mountains are radioactive as well. My dad got skin cancer from years of hiking and hunting in the Arik Armstead San Francisco 49ers thank you shirt and I will buy this Rocky Mountains. Those bodies were outside for months, not days.

Your dad’s skin cancer was more likely from excess exposure to solar radiation, if he was spending so much time at that high of an elevation. The mountains themselves are not necessarily radioactive. Skin cancer can be prevented with proper protection-sunblock with 50+SPF, hat with a brim, long sleeves,etc.- but one has to be consistent with the Arik Armstead San Francisco 49ers thank you shirt and I will buy this use of said protection. True, we definitely get a lot more sun exposure when in the mountains for 30 days at a time. This still doesn’t negate the several types of cancers that his friends who went with him every year got as well. For living in one of the cleanest, most pure areas of the world, you’d think we’d be less likely to all have gotten cancer in one form or another. Sun at the sea level is nothing compared to the sun at 4k+, where atmosphere doesn’t really protect you and the sunlight reflected by the snow is even worse
