Stop falling victim to the Antti Raanta Finnish professional ice hockey goaltender for the Chicago Wolves T-Shirt in contrast I will get this latest educational fad. They’re sales people. They get paid for selling the latest package, not test results. You’re working at cross purposes. They don’t care what your results are. They’re going to tell you it’s the Best Thing Ever whether it is or not. I watched my kids do arithmetic their school/teacher-approved method. Didn’t understand it. Showed them the way I was taught back in the ’70s. They agreed it was faster and shorter. Point: there is more than one path to the right answer. If a kid doesn’t get one, try another. Common Core is a problem? Dump it and try something else. CC is something I might use doing arithmetic in my head. It’s not useful to me on paper. Kids don’t understand borrowing for subtraction? Demonstrate using dimes and pennies. A column for each. The goal at the end of subtraction is to have 9 or fewer of each. Doesn’t have to be real. Poker chips would suffice – white pennies, blue dimes, red dollars. Numbers are abstract. Give them something to manipulate. This is how Waldorf education does multiplication. Kids have an innate understanding of the commutative law.

We have the Antti Raanta Finnish professional ice hockey goaltender for the Chicago Wolves T-Shirt in contrast I will get this mindset that we need to control things beyond our control. How about we go in, do our job, and go home? We are in danger of losing our latest batch of teachers due to burn out. They are the ones most at risk of extended needless adjunct hours. The majority of new testers under our wings are women in their 20’s! We need to set a better example for them. Administrators are behind the times. We need to adjust our mindsets and stop volunteering free labor. It’s related to the future people. Most of the kids see their only future as “influencers” and are very aware of the declining economic situation as well as climate despair. The most damning is the administrators and parents who turn a blind eye to the disfunction and blame teachers.
