In a small way, I’m grateful for this. Republicans are and have been digging their graves for decades. The IVF patients were looking to sue under this law (even though I think it’s a stretch and there are other laws that would be just as sufficient). This isn’t about access or abortion, but about the negligence of a medical facility.

I’m not saying what Alabama is doing is good. Usually if Alabama supports something it’s objectively bad. I’m curious as to how this will end IVF. Is it because not all implant attempts are succesful or because embryos eventually get destroyed? What are the facts that support this claim? My wife and I are currently going through IVF and this is something we’ve very seriously considered. We have about 6 embryos in cryo right now (some 3AB males, some 4AA males, and one 5AA female). If we successfully get pregnant, what happens to the remainder? We’ve considered donating them which is essentially adoption, and we MAY go that way, but they could also theoretically be disposed of, or paid to remain in cryo indefinitely. Because if a doctor accidentally destroys a sample, they could be going to prison for decades, or at LEAST be on the hook for hundreds of thousands or even millions in damages. No doctor is going to risk that. IVF is done in Alabama.
