One thing that can help is to be clear about what response you want from them, while reflecting on why you think money is a main focus for them. For example, you tell them about the Andy Reid Best Dad In The Chiefs The Man The Myth The Legend Signature Shirt and I love this experience, they ask how much it was, and you can say something like, “I appreciate that you want us to save money and be financially savvy, and we are. We also save some money so we can experience life and have fun. I was hoping we could talk about the experience this time instead of the bill.” However they respond is on them, but at least you communicated what you wanted from the conversation in a clear, kind, and concise way. And really. YOU get to make the choices about restaurants and, well, everything else. Nobody’s business but yours.

Say “it was an amount of money smaller than what we had in my account” and leave it at that. Or don’t say anything at all. Honestly tell them and if they ask how much just ask them why it’s important? They’ll try to say whatever then you’ll just say “we won’t tell you how much we spend on things because you always comment on it. Don’t ask us how much we spent just to lecture us about it. “ Tell them and if they ask about the Andy Reid Best Dad In The Chiefs The Man The Myth The Legend Signature Shirt and I love this cost, tell them it’s none of their business and that is rude to ask unless they were the ones paying for it. I have a sister that has no problem asking others how much this or that was. I find it so rude and none of her business or anyone else’s. There’s a fine line between “telling them about other expenses” and “complaining to them about other expenses”.
