Religion ain’t supposed to be taken literally, it’s just stories and probability mostly fictional. There has been practices that allow you to bring your meditation with you while eating, walking and even carry it through sleep. When eating and walking is a common monk knowledge but through sleep I heard only rumors. Meditation has nothing to do with what you do with your body, its the quieting of the mind in pure awareness, the position is just to relax the body, but there are countless active meditation practices. Many sadhus in India mediate for 3-5 days without breaks, it is even considered a common practice. Apparently Buddha sat with such conviction that he vowed to himself not to break his meditative concentration until he sees the truth/attains nirvana..whatever you may call it today. I once had a roommate who wanted to become an “airatarian” — he told me about these budist monks who supposedly meditated so hard that they could sustain themselves just by breathing.
