Spoiler alert ; Im stealing the line about murderous sun. I have been a victim of it murderous ways , Basil cell carcinoma . I didnt have t-shirt on . We wear them because we burn super easily. Also putting sunscreen on kids is a pain in the ass. Wearing them indoors also means I don’t have to buy extra suits. People wear water shirts to keep the sun off large portions of their body. No issue with that. Also no issue with people wearing shirts in a pool for other reasons. But honestly I assume people wear shirts in pools and especially the beach to keep from sunburning half their body I hate sunburn but I hate the greasiness of sunscreen even more. I wear my shirt at the beach and in the pool. I don’t get burnt and I don’t feel like I have bacon fat smeared on me.

As a person with a lot of Northern European heritage, it doesn’t take a lot for me to get very badly burned, even with diligent applications of high-SPF sunscreens. I sometimes wear a shirt when I am in the water. I do like to take the shirt off when I’m actually swimming vs just floating around as the shirts I wear aren’t made for water and can feel restricting. My sister, by comparison, wears long-sleeved bathing suits now because they’re a more common option. Others we see wear even fuller coverups for religious or personal reasons. OP shouldn’t worry about what other people think. Being fat isn’t the only reason people cover up.
